Barkley’s Kansas City headquarters building has many green features, most notably the rooftop gardens. They serve to reduce storm water runoff by as much as 50%, and lower temperatures by as much as 25%, thereby saving on building energy costs.

The plants and wildflowers are native to the Kansas prairie and are planted in special soil that is only about 4 inches deep. The look of the gardens shifts from season to season as different plants reach their peaks at different times of year.
